Lake Garda
“What to do and see on Lake Garda: all outdoor sports activities available on Italy’s largest lake.”
Lake Garda is the largest Italian lake that stretches across three regions: Lombardy in the province of Brescia, Veneto in the province of Verona and Trentino-Alto Adige in the province of Trento. Geographically, it is positioned parallel to the Adige River, from which it is divided by Monte Baldo. The northern part of the lake is located within the Alps and is characterized by a narrow and elongated shape, while the southern part occupies an area of the upper Po Valley with a wide and semicircular shape. Morphologically, however, Lake Garda can be divided into 4 areas: the plain (200 km²), the lake area (370 km²), the western part (500 km²) and, finally, the eastern part (1 040 km²).
In Roman times it was known as Benacus, associated with the cult of the god Neptune, and later, from the Middle Ages to the present day, it takes its current name of Lake Garda, whose origin is Germanic.
The climate is mild and the colors that nature gives are unique and spectacular: a landscape surrounded by olive trees, palm trees, lemon trees, cypresses, orange trees and landscapes rich in history and culture. The characteristic coloring of the water, an intense blue, makes this tourist destination among the most appreciated by foreigners and Italians.
