What is the Vallée Blanche ski descent
The Vallée Blanche descent is an ungroomed off-piste course that runs on the Mer de Glace glacier in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif.
It is downhill on skis along an 18-kilometer route, starting at Punta Helbronner at 3,466 meters and ending in Chamonix at 1,042 meters.
The Vallee Blanche descent is suitable for skiers used to skiing all slopes on parallel skis with good ski control.
HOW THE ACTIVITY TAKES PLACE
The ski descent to Vallée Blanche begins at 8:30/8:45 a.m. at the Mont Blanc SkyWay Cable Car in Entréves. All group members are provided with the safety kit (harness and Artva) by the Mountain Guide. This is followed by a short briefing on the day’s program and we set off for the cable car ascent to Punta Helbronner 3466m.
After visiting the viewing terraces to admire the crown of mountains surrounding the Aosta Valley, you will continue to Col Flambeaux in about a 15 min walk.
From Col Flambeaux, after putting on your skis, you will set off for the descent of Vallée Blanche along the Mer de Glace glacier. In about 4 to 5 hours you will reach Chamonix.
Stops are scheduled during the day to photograph the view, eat a picnic lunch and rest.
If snow permits, you will reach Chamonix on skis, or you will arrive in the village by the Montenvers little train (30.00€ not included in the price).
In either case, at the end of your visit you will go back up with your skis on to the slope leading to the ski lifts.
Finally, you will enjoy the traditional beer in the French town and return with the bus (included in the price) that will take you back to Courmayeur through the Mont Blanc Tunnel in 35 min.
Return to Courmayeur is scheduled between 4 and 5 p.m.
