WHAT is the hike to the summit craters

An exciting excursion that will allow you to climb to the top of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, walk through lava fields and admire the surrounding landscape on the summit craters.

HOW THE ACTIVITY TAKES PLACE

The hike to Etna’s summit craters begins at 09:00 a.m. at the meeting point indicated on the map.

Together with your guide and your adventure group you will ride the Etna cable car up to an altitude of 2000mt to 2500mt and from there you will begin a trek on foot up to 2950mt (maximum altitude reachable due to strong volcanic activity) crossing ancient and recent lava flows.

You will visit the edge of the Bove Valley, see the Summit Craters, Barbagallo Craters, the craters formed in 2001 and also a lava channel.

The descent will be done entirely on foot to the cable car terminal that will take you back to the starting point.
