Located in the heart of Amalfi, Valle delle Ferriere, also known as Valle dei Mulini is a protected natural area located in the small medieval village of Pontone (Scala), the oldest town on the Amalfi Coast. Waterfalls, gardens, vineyards and lemon groves will frame the guided hike.

About the Guided Hike

The guided hike starts from the meeting point in Amalfi and follows a circular route, returning to the town at the end of the experience.

The first part of the walk climbs above Amalfi through terraced lemon groves, offering views over the town and the coast. The route then continues into the valley, following the Canneto River towards the waterfalls and the protected natural landscape of the Ferriere Valley.

Along the way, your guide will introduce you to the vegetation, watercourses and traces of the activities that once developed in this area. The lower section of the valley is associated with the historic mills and paper factories that used water to power their machinery.

On the return towards Amalfi, you will pass the remains of old paper mills connected with the production of handmade Amalfi paper. The route then leads back towards the Paper Museum, the historic centre and Amalfi Cathedral.

The experience lasts approximately three hours. Although it is classified as easy, the route is an outdoor trail and may include steps, slopes, uneven ground and damp sections.

How it works ?

The Ferriere Valley trek begins at the point indicated on the map. It is a loop hike, starting and ending at the same place in the center of Amalfi.

Along the first part of the trail you can enjoy the view of Amalfi from a different point of view by walking through lemon groves. After about an hour's walk you reach an intersection where you have to turn right toward the strict nature reserve. Walking along the Canneto River, you will reach the most famous place with its waterfalls and rare plants.

You will reach the ruins of the ancient paper mills, where the famous "Carta d'Amalfi" (paper made according to the medieval system) was produced. After about an hour's walk you will arrive near the Paper Museum and reach the famous Amalfi Cathedral.
